A band with multilingual blend – INDIVA
Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything,” said Plato and this stands very true for the band which I am going to talk about under Band of the Month.
INDIVA…India’s Leading All-Diva- Multilingual Band blends its unique styles and talents encompassing the elements of nature… Wind… Earth…Water… Soil and Fire!! into their sound of Music…
Their special musical journey began as friends jamming together. Vivienne and Merlin were part of a Theatrical music production – this bonding gave way to many more musical spells and over the years their comfort grew wide to welcome and embrace another vocalist with Hindustani and Carnatic leanings. An Instrument with a unique sound that could crossover both western and Indian sounds…came as an additional gift…and with Shruti who was introduced by Hamshikha Iyer fit in perfectly with her skilled violin and Chandana’s superior Carnatic leanings completed the circle and Prism of Light making them… UNIQUE!
They all play a role in not just being “Vocal” about their brand of music but also “Instrumental” about it!
Vivienne Pocha (Vocals-guitar), Shruti Bhave (Vocals-Violin), Chandana Bala (Vocals) and Merlin Dsouza (Keys-vocals Composer Arranger).
“If Music is a Place, then Jazz is the City, Folk is the Wilderness, Rock is the Road and Classical is a Temple”. Thus, this band fuse the rich diversity of their land into folk music with a world-fusion musical interpretation. A Multi lingual band…they effortlessly slip into song…in Marathi, Hindi, English, Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Konkani, Portuguese, Bengali, Gujarati even Swahili and more! with Genres that Cradle.. Jazz, Blues, Funk, Latin and World Fusion. Each artist brings forth a rich musical lineage to the Band’s core sound making their SOUND of MUSIC… simply unparalleled!
“Music is the strongest form of magic” and these divas are truly musical magicians. Merlin is fondly called “FEMALE REHMAN” and she, along with Vivienne have to their feather performing at the World’s Wonder, Taj Mahal. All four of them have many more music awards and accolades to their credit, thus carving a niche for themselves as an outstanding band.
“Music drives you. It wakes you up. It gets you pumping. And at the end of the correct tune, chills you down” and such is the charisma of this versatile band.
