Padma Vibhushan Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan Sahab left us behind on January 17, 2021. His first death anniversary was observed, and a program was organized which was made available online. I am glad to inform you that on his second death anniversary, the Pandma Vibhushan Ghulam Mustafa Khan Award was established. Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia was the first bearer of this honor. The award would likely be one of those ways to be able to leave this eternal memory in the name of Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan Sahab.

The revolutionary artiste who wrote all of his music in numerous languages:

In addition to being a well-known singer, he was a revolutionary artiste who wrote all of his music in numerous languages, including Hindi, Urdu, Sanskrit, Persian, etc. The mascot for the Rampur Sahaswan Gharana, Padma Vibhushan Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan, has received various awards in his lifetime. In addition to Lata Mangeshkar, he has served as a mentor to many other notable Bollywood singers like Sonu Nigam, Shaan, AR Rahman, Hariharan, and Asha Bhosle. He was also his son’s and grandson’s mentor.

Now on every year, there will be a musical concert and an award given to commemorate his Barsi. Later, this occasion will go on for two more days. Rabbani Mustafa Khan, the son of Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan, aims to expand the number of award categories and make the event more elaborate.

I got an opportunity to meet him:

I feel honoured that in the year 2015, I got an opportunity to meet him. It was during my yearly show, “The Kidsync.” At that time, Swar Aalap had completed approximately 16 years. The concept behind the show was for children to perform music from the Golden Era. I met Ghulam Mustafa Khan Sahab as a result of that show, since his grandson, Faiz Mustafa Khan was a performer there. I would like to Thank Murtaza Mustafa Khan also, as he motivated his son Faiz to perform at our event, and much appreciated Swar Aalap’s concept & work.

In that show, Padma Vibhushan Ghulam Mustafa Khan appreciated my work and stated, “I am grateful to Dinesh Ghate, he gathered everyone here. He also added, “Ganga Jamuna Tahazeeb hai yahan. Hindustan Zindabad.” The concept of the show, which aimed to introduce the younger generation to black-and-white era music, piqued his interest. He was delighted to see his grandson perform at an event where generations were bridging gaps. “Swar Aalap is doing amazing work. And I hope they continue to do this. May Allah grant the individuals behind this organization a long life. And as every performer on this show is like my grandchildren, I hope they progress significantly in their lives. Dinesh Ghate is a wonderful artist himself. Allah granted him the capacity to consider these types of unique ideas. Such people are really hard to find. I’m glad to have met him since he thinks a lot about both the kids and the elderly. May Allah grant him more success in life and keep him and his family in good health. I hope he continues to organize similar programs and do such work,” He said. I still feel lucky to have received such blessings from a great personality like him.
