Reviving Classical – Kala Coast

Kala Coast is a movement in the direction of propagating music and arts, spread across many cities in India intending to gradually spread across the globe. The activities of Kala Coast are managed by the Global Music and Arts Charitable Trust registered in Mumbai. The flagship project of Kala Coast is a centre for Music and Fine Arts at Karje near Brahmavar, situated in the Udupi district of coastal Karnataka.

A Music & Fine Arts academy based on the Gurukul tradition coordinated with innovative systems of pedagogical practices, a well-equipped Arts library and Archival Gallery, an Amphitheatre and Open Stage for hosting varied events are some of the proposed structures complementary to facilitating such activities at Kala Coast.

Kala Coast is a unique attempt to bring together everyone engaged in the arts under one roof, to perform, practice, profess, interact, discuss, collaborate, explore and exchange their ideas and skills. The Kala Coast team includes musicians, artistes, art enthusiasts, students and professionals representing various fields.

A residential township of artistes initiates them to get involved in performances, workshops, interactive sessions and the music and arts education and rejuvenation programmes designed by Kala Coast from time to time.

Kala Coast also aims at promoting talented musicians and artistes in the rural and interior parts of India giving them an opportunity to bring forth their talent to the masses and even supporting unprivileged and financially backward musicians and artistes by granting scholarships and financial aid to such people. The activities of Kala Coast are managed by the Global Music & Arts Charitable Trust, registered in Mumbai. These events and activities are spread across cities in India, gradually intending to widen its scope globally.

The first Kala Coast Music Festival organised at the Global Music and Arts Village in the year 2015 marked the inauguration of Kala Coast. Inaugurated by internationally acclaimed musicians Shubha Mudgal and Dr Aneesh Pradhan, this event was witnessed by artists and music lovers from different parts of the country.

Kala Coast Impact (Series of Interactive sessions)

In line with its mission of celebrating the diversity of arts and culture and promoting the spirit of collaboration, Kala Coast has conceptualized the IMPACT Series (Interactive Music and Performing Arts: Concepts and Themes), where the audience can interact with popular and path breaking Artists representing different art forms and take away a deeper understanding of the art form along with fresh perspectives of art appreciation.

The IMPACT Series is a bi-monthly event, with each event highlighting one or many different Art forms or subjects like Music, Dance, Theatre, Cinema, Painting, Sculpture and other Performing and Visual Arts.

The purpose of the IMPACT Series is to:

  • Improve the sense of art appreciation for an audience with insights from artists
  • Make it lucid for a lay audience to appreciate art forms and demystify the arts
  • Prepare a level playing field for all Art forms, without any hierarchy
  • Allow access to artists and audience through an interactive platform
  • Create a common understanding of Arts and its expressions across art forms with a trans-disciplinary or a cross over approach
  • Target a new generation of art aficionados, who can aspire to appreciate the language of Art in its entirety (not limited to silos, genre or a specific Art Form).

The event is carried out in an Interview + Demonstration/Performance format facilitated by an Interviewer, and a Q&A session with the Audience towards the end of the session. Kala Coast is not just an ideology; it is a mission in the direction of empowering the artist and make the world a better place to live in, through the arts.
